Areté Singers is a professional network of classical, opera, musical theater, and a cappella artists dedicated to the highest standards of performance and the joyful development of every singer. We are the flagship ensemble of Areté Arts Group, LLC, and we take our name from the ancient Greek ideal of Areté—the pursuit of excellence in all that we do.
Who We Are
Our community brings together music students, dedicated avocational singers, voice teachers, music directors, and professional artists—including those who perform with the San Francisco Opera and San Francisco Symphony Choruses. We rehearse across the greater San Francisco Bay Area in San Francisco, San Jose, Santa Rosa, Orinda, and Stockton, making high-level ensemble experience accessible throughout the region.
Singers progress through three levels of membership—Rising Stars, Bravo, and Artisan—each designed to nurture growth while maintaining the artistic standard that defines us. We are a true village: supportive, respectful, and committed to helping every member develop their talent and advance their musical journey.
Our Accomplishments
Areté Singers has earned a reputation for polished, professional artistry:
- Carnegie Hall Debut – In June 2025 we made our Carnegie Hall debut, and we return in June 2027 for a residency performing Antonín Dvořák’s Mass in D major under the direction of Dr. Mark Sumner.
- Major collaborations with the Golden Gate Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and the Pacific Chamber Orchestra.
- Featured on the national gaming tour The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses.
- International travel, including performances in the Philippines.
- Our singers are regularly invited to enhance and support other choruses, a testament to the trust and respect our ensemble has earned.
- Proud membership in the American Choral Directors Association and Chorus America.
Our Goals
We exist to create exceptional musical experiences while building a lasting community of artists. Our goals include:
- Delivering performances of the highest artistic quality in concerts, residencies, and collaborative productions.
- Providing meaningful professional development and performance opportunities for singers at every stage of their journey.
- Supporting the greater Bay Area choral arts community through collaboration, shared resources, and artistic excellence.
- Fostering an environment where singers grow in skill, confidence, and career readiness—many of our members have gone on to build professional music careers across the United States.
- Upholding the dual commitment to excellence and mutual support that defines the Areté village.
